Report to

Nutrition Program Manager

SUMMARY

The Nutrition Screener is responsible for screening children under five and pregnant and lactating mothers for malnutrition and admitting them or discharging them through the appropriate program using the IMAM guidelines. The Nutrition Screener will work closely with the Nutrition Officer, Program Manager, and other staff to ensure that the program is implemented effectively and that its results are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Screen children under five and pregnant and lactating mothers for malnutrition. This includes:

o   Measuring the weight and height of children and mothers

o   Calculating the MUAC (mid-upper arm circumference) of children

o   Categorizing children and mothers according to their nutritional status

·        Admit children and mothers to the appropriate program. This includes:

o   Referring children with severe malnutrition to hospitals for inpatient treatment

o   Referring mothers with complications of malnutrition to midwives or doctors

o   Enrolling children and mothers in the outpatient treatment program

·        Discharge children and mothers from the program. This includes:

o   Ensuring that children and mothers have achieved a healthy weight and height

o   Providing families with information on how to maintain a healthy diet

·        Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in nutrition screening
  • Strong understanding of nutrition principles and practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong commitment to the project’s mission and goals.
